Guide for AHS contractors

The AHS contractor portal, and how to spend less time in it.

If you take American Home Shield work, the contractor portal is where dispatches, authorizations, and status updates live. Here's what it handles — and what you can stop doing by hand.

Looking for the login? This is Field Boss Pro — we're not American Home Shield. Contractors sign in through Frontdoor, AHS's parent company, at contractor.frontdoorhome.com. That link goes straight there.

What is the American Home Shield contractor portal used for?

It's where American Home Shield service providers manage the jobs AHS sends them. Contractors use it to see in-progress dispatches, request and receive authorization for repairs through SmartAutho, submit required forms, update job status, and handle billing. It works — the problem for most shops isn't the portal itself, it's that every work order has to be read out of it and typed into whatever software actually runs their business, and then every status change has to be typed back in.

What contractors actually do in the portal

Four jobs, repeated for every dispatch. None of them is hard. Together they are where the evenings go.

Read new dispatches

Check the in-progress dispatches tab, see what AHS sent, and copy the customer, address, appliance, and claim number somewhere useful.

Request authorization

Submit what the repair needs through SmartAutho and wait on the approval before ordering parts or scheduling the return trip.

Update status

Mark the job scheduled, parts ordered, parts arrived, or complete — so AHS and the member know where things stand.

Submit forms and billing

File what the claim requires and get paid for the work.

Why the portal costs more time than it looks like it does

On its own, one work order is a couple of minutes. The cost is that the portal is a second system. Your schedule, your techs, your invoices, and your direct customers live somewhere else, so every warranty job gets entered twice and updated twice — once for AHS and once for you. Miss one of those updates and the two records disagree, which is how a job ends up marked complete on one side and open on the other. Shops doing a meaningful volume of warranty work often describe this as a Sunday evening problem, because it is not urgent enough to interrupt a workday and never small enough to skip.

How contractors automate the portal work

  1. 1

Connect your software to AHS directly

Field Boss Pro integrates with American Home Shield, so dispatched work orders arrive in your schedule with the customer, address, appliance, claim number, and authorization already filled in. Nobody reads them out of the portal.

  2. 2

Let the status sync run both directions

When your tech marks the job scheduled, parts ordered, parts arrived, or complete, that pushes back to AHS on its own. Changes AHS makes come back to you the same way, so the two records can't drift.

  3. 3

Keep warranty and direct customers in one place

The same system runs your non-warranty jobs, invoicing, payments, and dispatch — so there is no second app and no double entry to begin with.

  4. 4

Let the AI handle the scheduling calls

New dispatches get called and booked automatically, including the parts-arrived callback that usually sits for a few days because nobody had time to make it.

Common questions

Where do I log in to the AHS contractor portal?

Contractors sign in at contractor.frontdoorhome.com, through Frontdoor, which is American Home Shield's parent company. Note that this is not the same as the American Home Shield account login a homeowner would use — that one is for policyholders, not service providers.

Can I stop using the AHS contractor portal entirely?

Not entirely — American Home Shield still owns the relationship and there will be times you need to sign in. What you can eliminate is the daily work: reading dispatches out of it and typing status back into it. With a direct integration those both happen automatically.

What is SmartAutho?

SmartAutho is American Home Shield's electronic authorization process. Contractors use it to request approval for repair items on a dispatch rather than handling authorization by phone.

Is Field Boss Pro affiliated with American Home Shield?

No. Field Boss Pro is independent field service management software that integrates with American Home Shield so contractors do not have to work out of the portal all day. American Home Shield is a separate company and the portal is theirs.

Does this work for First American Home Warranty too?

Yes. First American Home Warranty is integrated the same way, in the same system, at no extra cost. Most shops that take AHS take First American as well.

What does it cost to automate this?

Plans start at $99 per month with three technicians included, and the warranty integration is part of the platform rather than an add-on. There is a 7-day free trial with no credit card, month to month.
